Everyone who cooks can use some of these practical, time saving kitchen tools. While you can get by with a bare bones kitchen and a few old pots and pans, a lot of dishes are harder to make or more time consuming to prepare. The items in this list can free up some of your time, help you make delicious meals, store leftovers and even make the kitchen a fun place. So without further ado, here are some of my favorite kitchen gadgets. I hope you like them.
1. Bread Maker
Imagine getting up in the morning to the smell of freshly baked bread, ready for you to take out of the machine and slice up for toast or for lunch sandwiches. And all you had to do was load the ingredients the night before, then set the timer.
2. Automatic Coffee Maker
This goes well with the bread maker. Add coffee grounds and water, set the clock and have coffee waiting for you when you stumble out of bed in the morning. Rise and shine!
3. High Quality Knife Set
I used to make do with an old set of mismatched knives given to me without a knife block. Some of the handles were loose, and they had to be stored in a drawer. The new set sits on the counter top. The edges stay sharp longer, and the set contains knives for most needs. More room in the drawer, too.
4. Plastic Food Containers
With a set of containers for food storage, saving leftovers is much easier. Many have lids with vents, for use in microwaves. Another way to use them is to freeze food for future use. They look better than old margarine and yogurt containers, too.
5. Immersion Blender
These hand-held gadgets can be placed in large drinking glasses, pots, or mixing bowls. You can mix drinks, baking ingredients, gravies or even whip potatoes. They take up less space and are easier to clean than traditional blenders as well.
6. Toaster Oven
A toaster oven can cook toasted items with toppings, like garlic bread and mini pizzas, as well as make toast. Small baking projects are possible too, if you don’t want to or can’t use a larger oven.
7. Sandwich Grill
For grilled cheese, tuna melts and patty melts, these grills seal the edge of the sandwich so cheese and other things can’t leak out.
These are some of the kitchen gadgets I like to use myself. For the larger items, maybe you can borrow one to test drive it before you buy. That is what I did with the bread maker. Our food containers, coffee maker and hand blender see daily use, and the toaster oven and sandwich grill once or twice a week. All in all, a good investment for my family. Happy cooking!

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that in December 2007, Americans had accumulated $944 BILLION in total revolving debt, most of it on credit cards. Spending with creditcards has infiltrated every nook and cranny of our American lifestyle. In the past, consumers put only discretionary expenses on plastic cards. Currently, most peopleare so strapped for cash that they use revolving credit cards to pay for necessities like groceries and gas just to survive. That is economic slavery.
The government’s idea might sound like it will work well, however,but I don’t think it is a good plan. I believe a more workable idea is to utilize that rebate check to reduce your debt on credit card balances. If you have less debt, you eventually willwill eventually have more money to spend on things like groceries and gas. We are talking about basic survival for many families. There is not an economy on the planet that can flourish when consumers are buried under a mountain of suffocating debt.

There is no good reason to hurry out and spend the rebate on ’stuff’ when you already can’t pay for the stuff that’s already sitting on your credit cards as debt. When you are DEBT FREE, you can start saving up to buy that gizmo or gadget you have had your eye on.
If you are already debt free, then invest the money so it makes more money for you. It doesn’t take very long before that $600 or $1,200 dollars can grow to double or even triple the value at an 8 - 12% return.
Allright, allright. If you can’t control yourslef and just have to blow some of the rebate on a splurge item, just limit the amount you spend by enjoying a nice dinner at a restaurant or buying that music CD or book you’ve been wanting. After that use the rest to pay off credit card debt or put into an investment. The quicker you get out of debt, the more often you can spend your income on enjoyable things instead of spending sleepless nights worrying about how you are going to pay off those credit cards and get out of debt.

In this age of increasing technology, one crime that has increased exponentially in our society is identity theft. Identity theft occurs when one person steals and intentionally misuses the personal, financial data of another person for their own personal gain. Thieves will usually charge large amounts of debt or commit crimes in another persons name, causing problems that can take years to fix.
This new wave of crime can be nerve-wracking. You can become paranoid worrying about the ways identity thieves have figured out to steal your information. But there are several things you can do to protect yourself. One of the simplest and most important is to look at your credit score from the credit bureaus on a regular basis.
Under a new law that has recently been enacted, the three main credit bureaus must allow me to check my credit score for free at a minimum of once per year. They also will allow you to check your credit score ratings, but often at a nominal fee. Your credit report will allow you to see all accounts that have been opened in your name. If anything looks amiss, you are allowed to dispute these findings at no extra charge to you.
Though checking your credit through the credit bureaus is a good start, there are several additional things that you can do to improve your protection. One very important thing to do is to shred all documents containing any personal information, this type of material is a prime source of information if not shredded. It has often been reported that identity thieves will sort through the trash looking for information on potential victims.
Another surefire way to safeguard yourself from having your identity stolen is to carry the bare minimum of ID with you. In the case that you are mugged or lose your purse or wallet, thieves and potential identity thieves will have little to go on. Your social security number is especially important to protect, so don’t carry your social security card in your wallet. It’s best to leave it locked away in a safe location at your house.
Finally, make a list of your credit card account numbers and banking information, with the direct phone numbers to each associated institution. Keep this list in a safe place. While hopefully you will never need it, if your cards are lost, this preparation will allow you to report the crime quickly so that thieves have minimum time to damage your credit.
With improved technology, identity theft, or the misuse of individual’s identification for another’s gain, has become more prevalent. However, there are ways to protect oneself. Most importantly, I can contact the three main credit bureaus for free once yearly to check my credit score. I can also view my credit score ratings for an extra fee. Additionally, I can shred documents before discarding, keep my social security card at home and maintain records of all my credit cards and banking information in case my wallet is ever stolen and I need to contact these institutions as soon as possible.
