Sad Effects of Childhood Obesity

By On February 28, 2008 Under Family

Everyone knows that childhood obesity is far from healthy. It’s an epidemic, and you need only look around to see how dangerous it is becoming. It’s no surprise that when we have so many overweight children, people are terrified when they look towards the future. If you’re a parent, don’t look at the future of every child, just look at the future of yours for a moment.

The effects of childhood obesity are very dangerous. In fact, there are links to many different diseases from being an obese child. Heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure are just a few.

This is not to mention the other effects of childhood obesity. Children can be very mean to each other, especially at school. Any child who is overweight could easily become the butt of jokes. They are frequently teased and tormented.

Being a child that is not accepted, and who is made fun of is miserable. These children suffer daily as they are not chosen for sports teams, not invited to birthday parties, and not asked to the school dance because they are too ‘fat.’

Perhaps as more people see and understand the effects of childhood obesity, we will all be able to stand together and make a difference. But today, you can start with your own child when it’s time for dinner. Encourage good eating habits: Teach your child the difference between the food that’s good for them and the food that’s unhealthy, and you will reduce or even put a stop to childhood obesity. Children look to their parents as teachers and examples to follow. It’s up to you to teach him or her the right eating habits. Your child deserves a better quality of life, and he or she depends on you to provide it and avoid childhood obesity. Don’t sentence your child to a life of sadness and sickness. You can help put a stop to the childhood obesity epidemic by starting with your own child.
